Sen. J.D. Vance has fired back at Democrats’ latest attack on his recently revived quip that the country is being run by “childless, catty women,” accusing them of taking the remarks out of context.

“If you look at the full context of what I said, it’s clear that Democrats are trying to take this out of context and blow it up, as they always do because they don’t have a plan for running their own campaigns,” he told Fox News’ Trey Gowdy on “Sunday Night in America.”

“This country is effectively being run, through the Democrats and the corporate oligarchy, by childless catwomen who are miserable about their lives and the choices they’ve made, and they want the rest of the country to be miserable, too,” Vance said in a 2021 Focus interview.

He also specifically cited prominent left-wing figures such as Vice President Kamala Harris and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) as examples.

After the comments resurfaced, the Ohio senator and Trump’s running mate was criticized by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, actress Jennifer Aniston and Harris’ campaign for devaluing women who don’t or can’t have children.

He made his intentions clear on Sunday.

“What worries the American people most is not some joke I made three years ago that was taken out of context, it’s the fact that border chief Kamala Harris has opened up the southern border of the United States. It’s the fact that the Democratic Party has become explicitly anti-family in some of its policies,” he said.

“In fact, I just heard Kamala Harris say in a video that came out recently that having children is a bad idea because of fears about climate change. What I’m trying to say here is that it’s important for us as a country to value family. Of course, that’s not going to work for some people for a variety of reasons. We should pray for those people and sympathize with those people. I think it still means that we as a political party should generally speaking value family,” he added.

Vance said he believes becoming a parent has a “profound” impact on how people think, and renewed his accusation against Democrats of promoting anti-child, anti-family rhetoric.

“There are lots of people who don’t have children for a variety of reasons, and they are absolutely wonderful people who can fully participate in the life of this country,” he said, before adding shortly after: “So this is not a criticism of all childfree people, and never have been. This is a lie from the left. This is a criticism of the increasingly anti-parent, anti-child attitudes of the left.”
