Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (Democrat) and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (Democrat) campaigned for Vice President Harris in Bucks County, Pennsylvania on Monday.
The two battleground state governors praised Harris’ performance as vice president but did not hold back on their attacks on former President Trump.
“I have a message for Donald Trump: Stop badmouthing America,” said Shapiro, the leading contender to be Harris’ running mate. “This is the greatest country on earth. Let’s start acting like it.”
Shapiro also described Trump as a “wacko,” an insult repeated by Harris’ surrogates and running mate in recent days.
“Have you seen this guy? He walks up to the flag and hugs it. I flag, But it’s a weird thing he does,” Shapiro joked.
The campaign comes as Harris’ campaign deploys surrogates across the country, with Bucks County known as one of the most competitive battleground states in the country and potentially playing a decisive role in the swing state of Pennsylvania.
The Harris campaign is targeting the must-win “blue wall” of states: Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.
Governor Whitmer attempted to bring the three states together on stage Monday.
“The people of Pennsylvania are a lot like the people of Michigan and a lot like the people of Wisconsin,” said Governor Whitmer.
“As Governor Shapiro often says, we are the party of true freedom for the American people,” she continued.
According to the latest poll from The Hill/Emerson College, Harris is tied with Trump in Wisconsin with 47 percent approval, but is trailing by two points in Pennsylvania and one point in Michigan.
