North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has passed on the bid to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in this election, according to The New York Times.
The Times reported Monday evening that Cooper informed Harris’ team of his decision to withdraw. It was unclear why.
Cooper has been seen in recent days as a leading candidate to be Harris’ running mate.
Other candidates being mentioned include Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Mark Kelly and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
In the first week of Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid, several vice presidential candidates, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, have risen to the top of voter support.
An ABC/Ipsos poll released Sunday gave Buttigieg the highest approval rating (29%) of any vice presidential candidate on Harris’ list.
The other candidates trailed slightly behind with Kerry receiving 22 percent support, California Governor Gavin Newsom receiving 21 percent, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer receiving 20 percent and Shapiro receiving 17 percent.
