Politico changed its headline to say that VP Harris’ support for a fracking ban was a “Trump denunciation,” even though she publicly supported the practice multiple times during the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.
“Harris campaign promises no fracking ban after Trump’s attack,” was the original headline of the Politico story that ran on Sunday.
Harris’ campaign has said the Democratic front-runner doesn’t want to ban fracking. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has brought up Harris’ original position on fracking at campaign rallies, criticizing her for changing her stance on the issue.
“Trump’s false claims about the fracking ban are a clear attempt to distract from his plans to enrich oil and gas executives at the expense of the middle class,” the Harris campaign said in a statement to Politico. “The Biden-Harris Administration passed the largest climate change bill in history, and under their leadership, the United States now boasts the highest domestic energy production in history.”

VP Harris faces backlash in key battleground states as ‘disastrous’ anti-fracking stance resurfaces
After calling Harris “the ultra-liberal engine behind all of Biden’s disasters,” Trump added at a recent rally: “Harris doesn’t want fracking. You’re going to pay a lot of money. You’re going to pay a lot of money. You’re going to say, ‘Bring Trump back.'”
Politico’s reporting characterized Trump’s comments about Harris’ past stance as “allegations” in the “background” section of the story.
According to a Politico report, “Harris was one of the most liberal candidates running for her party’s nomination in the 2020 election, but Trump’s claims come as she is expected to soften her stance on energy issues.”
The report’s new headline reads, “Harris campaign promises no fracking ban.”
“The headline has been changed to accurately reflect the Vice President’s change in position on fracking,” a Politico spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

The headline was criticised on social media.
CNN reporter Andy Kaczynski wrote on social media that the Politico report was “bizarre” and not an “accusation.”
“She has said that publicly many times in 2019. The news is that she has only recently publicly changed her position,” he added.
During her 2020 presidential run, Harris also voiced her support for the Green New Deal, which would also ban fracking.

“There’s no question that I’m in favor of banning fracking,” Harris said at a CNN town hall meeting as a presidential candidate in 2019.
“And we should start with what we can do from day one around our public lands, right? And we need to enact legislation, but yes, that’s something I’ve taken on in California. I have a background working on this issue, and you’re right, we have to acknowledge that the residual impacts of fracking are enormous in terms of the health and safety of our communities,” she said at the time.
In 2019, he also performed a “news slow jam” skit with “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon, in which he said he would “abolish fracking once and for all.”
