Victim of Kamala Harris’s Job Program for Felons: Her Record is ‘Laughable’

A woman who was nearly fatally injured at the hands of an illegal immigrant protected by San Francisco’s sanctuary city policy when Vice President Kamala Harris was district attorney has called the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee’s criminal record “laughable.”

In 2008, 20-year-old undocumented immigrant Alexander Izaguirre pleaded guilty to selling cocaine in San Francisco. Instead of going to prison or being turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), then-District Attorney Kamala Harris placed Izaguirre in the “Back on Track” employment program.

The “Back on Track” program, which Harris created in 2005, allows young people between the ages of 18 and 30 to plead guilty to felony drug offenses if they agree to participate in a year-long work program while living in a place of their choice.

A few months after his incarceration at Back on Track, Izagirre robbed then-29-year-old Amanda Keefer, then jumped into an SUV and ran her over, leaving Keefer with blood coming from her ears and a fractured skull.

Fifteen years after the violent assault, Kiefer told ABC News that Harris’ attempts to portray herself as a tough-on-crime prosecutor are “laughable” given what happened to her.

“When policies affect you negatively, it’s an eye-opener,” Keefer said. SaidAccording to ABC News:

“If people who commit crimes are allowed to stay out of prison and get training for jobs they cannot legally get, I think most Americans would deny that.” Kiefer told ABC News. [Emphasis added]

For Kiefer, the violence she suffered was what she called a “red pill moment.” — a reference to the pill in the film “The Matrix” that gives its user the ability to see harsh reality. [Emphasis added]

Harris did not admit to Kiefer’s violent acts until a year later, in 2009. Said of Los Angeles Times “The Izagirre incident was clearly [the Back on Track] program.”

“I’m not going to downplay this or sweep this under the rug,” Harris said. Times.

Izaguirre was one of several undocumented immigrants whom Harris detained in Back on Track rather than jail them or turn them over to ICE agents. Times “In effect, Harris’ office was keeping Izagirre and other undocumented immigrants out of prison by training them for jobs they could not get legally,” the report said.

Todd Bensman of the Center for Immigration Studies It is called He noted that Harris is an “immigration extremist” with a history of opposing ICE detention of illegal immigrants, supporting the complete abolition of ICE, and suggesting that crossing the border illegally should not be a crime.
