Former Vice President Kamala Harris (Democratic Party) is reportedly urging the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to disclose the autopsy results from the 2024 presidential election, which she lost to President Donald Trump.
According to a report by NBC News, someone who overheard Harris speaking with donors mentioned that she wants the committee to provide insights on what went wrong and the reasons behind her defeat.
“Harris indicated to her donors that she was open to making the information public, but she had not yet spoken to DNC Chairman Ken Martin about it and was not aware of his choice to keep it confidential until it was already done,” the report added. “The discussion around releasing these results has become a contentious issue within the party, causing concern for Martin, who had committed to a thorough review of the loss and sharing it with the public.”
Axios reported in February that Democratic officials involved in the confidential report suggested that Harris lost significant support due to former President Joe Biden’s management of the conflict in Gaza.
The Axios article noted, “Throughout her brief campaign, Harris aimed to showcase strong backing for Israel while advocating for a cease-fire and expressing compassion for Palestinians affected by the violence and the hostages taken by Hamas.”
Following her loss to Trump, Harris stated she would be working on a memoir about her campaign after Biden exited the race. During promotional activities for the book, she inaccurately claimed that the results represented the “closest” election of the 21st century.
The report continued:
In reality, the closest election of this century occurred when former President George W. Bush secured a 271-266 Electoral College win over former Vice President Al Gore.
The 2020 election was also narrow, with former President Joe Biden holding 74 more electoral votes than Trump, but 86 more than Harris had in 2024.
Moreover, Harris lost every battleground state and failed to win even a single county, making her the first Democrat in two decades to lose the popular vote.
Harris has indicated that she might consider running for the presidency again in 2028, and a recent Harvard University/Harris poll suggests that American voters are interested in a match-up between Vice President J.D. Vance and Harris in the upcoming election.
