Trump edges out Harris in Arizona, Pennsylvania but lags in Georgia in new polling

According to a new poll obtained for the first time by The Hill, former President Trump is narrowly ahead of Vice President Harris in Arizona and Pennsylvania, but is closing in on her in Georgia.

A poll conducted by the left-leaning polling firm Public Policy Polling on behalf of the Progress Action Fund, a Democratic super PAC, showed Trump with 49% of respondents in Arizona favoring Harris and 47%, with 3% saying they didn’t know.

In Pennsylvania, Trump led Harris 48 percent to 47 percent, with 5 percent undecided, while in Georgia the results were reversed, with Harris narrowly leading Trump 48 percent to 47 percent, with 5 percent undecided.

With all the polls falling within their respective margins of error, Trump and Harris are essentially tied in each state — a notable development from a few weeks ago, when the Democrat was battling President Biden, who was trailing Trump in most battleground states.

In Arizona, 59% of people said they would not be more or less likely to vote for Harris if Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) were chosen as her running mate.

Twenty-two percent of Arizonans said it has become more likely, 17% said it has become less likely, and another 2% said they weren’t sure.

In Pennsylvania, 64% of respondents said that having Democrat Gov. Josh Shapiro as her running mate would make them no differently about whether they would choose Harris, while 19% said it would make them more likely to support her, 14% said it would make them less likely, and 3% said they weren’t sure.

“In just one week, Vice President Harris has run an exceptionally and unprecedentedly effective campaign that has turned this race on its head,” said Joe Jacobson, founder and executive director of the Progress Action Fund.

“Most Democrats are afraid to be aggressive, but Vice President Harris is not,” he continued. “She has completely changed the dynamic of the race. If Democrats continue to hold Donald Trump and the Republican Party accountable for their eerie and bizarre policies, she will win the presidency.”

The Democratic super PAC is known for its eyebrow-raising ads, including one last year that depicted Republican lawmakers in a marital bedroom to highlight reproductive rights issues.

Polls, while still early, suggest Democrats have reason to be optimistic that with Ms. Harris as the presumptive Democratic nominee, they can keep the battleground states in the party’s favor. Ms. Harris’ campaign is still selecting a running mate, with names such as Mr. Shapiro and Mr. Kelly also being mentioned.

The Public Policy Polling poll in Arizona was conducted July 29-30 and surveyed 618 Arizona voters. It has a margin of error of 3.9 percentage points. The Pennsylvania poll was conducted July 29-30 and surveyed 627 Pennsylvania voters. It has a margin of error of 3.9 percentage points. The Georgia poll was conducted July 29-30 and surveyed 662 Georgia voters. This poll has a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points.
