According to Politico, President Joe Biden’s mass immigration policies are “currently the biggest weakness” in Vice President Kamala Harris’ potential reelection campaign.
One solution, according to Politico, is for Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) to be his running mate.
“A growing number of House Democrats are telling Kamala Harris she should pick Sen. Mark Kelly as her vice president, believing he would fill Harris’ biggest current weakness: the border,” Politico reported. I have written July 28:
Kerry, a native of a battleground and border state, supports improved security and voted in favor of a bipartisan border deal in the Senate earlier this year. Five days before President Joe Biden withdrew his candidacy, Kerry met with the country’s president in Mexico City and pressed him on border security and management. [Rep. Lou] Correa [D-Ca]”Wow, this guy knows what he’s talking about,” he recalled thinking of the Arizona senator, who accompanied Kerry on the trip.
Karen Tumulty, The Washington Post, pushed Same line“Choosing Kerry, who is roughly the same age as Harris at 60, would help guard against areas where she may be vulnerable, and that starts with immigration.”
Chris Chmielewski, president of the Project on Immigrant Accountability, scoffed at Kelly’s possible promotion.
Harris has been more involved in immigration issues than Kerry because of her position as vice president and her seat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, he told Breitbart News.
[Before 2021] She sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over immigration policy. She comes from a state that has been a key player in the country’s immigration policy for the last 30 years… She [donors in] I’m sure people in Silicon Valley are telling her, “Look, we can’t find computer programmers. We need more. We need to bring in more people.”
“Instead, she goes to someone who has a military background and was an astronaut?… It doesn’t make sense to bill him as an expert on immigration issues. [2024] “Tickets,” Chmielewski said.
But Kelly “tends to toe the company line,” making him a safe choice for her, Chmielewski said.
Party Policy [is] “We need to secure our southern border, [comprehensive immigration reform] … He is certainly a supporter of the open-borders idea of comprehensive immigration reform that would amnesty millions of illegal immigrants and dramatically increase legal immigration.
But Kerry has had little involvement in setting national immigration policy in the Senate, Chmielewski told Breitbart News.
If you go back and look at this [2024] The senator [Chuck] Schumer [D-NY] It was formed essentially to address the border crisis legislatively, but he didn’t choose Mark Kelly as his candidate. [Kyrsten] cinema [D-AZ] He is an independent, [Sen.] Chris Murphy [D-CN] Aside from the coincidence that he happens to live in a state that is experiencing a large number of illegal border crossings under the Biden administration, I can’t think of a single example where he’s been deeply involved in immigration policy efforts here in the United States.
[His perspective on immigration is] From a business perspective, border wait times are [important for him] Because the trade across the land border is mostly by truck, and we have a lot of people crossing from Mexico into Arizona to shop at Sam’s Clubs and so on. Obviously, this is a boost for Arizona communities. Not from an immigration policy standpoint, but more from building local economies than it is from dealing with the entire federal immigration system.
Since 2021, Harris has repeatedly distanced herself from Biden’s deeply unpopular immigration policies, pushed by Cuban-born pro-immigration border chief Alejandro Mayorkas.
Biden, March 2021 imposed on her She has a wide range of border security responsibilities and many media outlets, including CNN, MSNBC, CBS and ABC, have referred to her asBorder She was called the “border czar.” (When that nickname appeared to hurt Harris’s presidential chances this month, the same media outlet announced that “border czar” was not her title.)
Biden said:
I asked her today, as Vice President, to lead our efforts with Mexico, the Northern Triangle, and donor countries that need our help to stem the flow of so many people, stem the migration to our southern border. When she speaks, she speaks for me. She doesn’t have to check with me. She knows what she’s doing. I’m hopeful that we can move this effort forward.
“The Vice President has agreed to lead our diplomatic efforts, to work with these countries to accept returnees and to strengthen immigration enforcement at their borders,” Biden told photographers invited to the occasion.
What’s noteworthy is that Harris responded to Biden’s “stemming.” order The US government has said it “must address the root causes of migration.”
Thank you, Mr. President, for your confidence in me. There’s no question that this is a difficult situation. We’re clear that people should not be coming to the border right now, but we also understand that we have to enforce the law and address the underlying causes that are forcing people to make the journey that they are to come here, as the President stated, because you could walk and chew gum.
President Biden did not use the word “root causes.”
A few months later, in June 2021, She aligned herself with Mayorkas’ policies. “The President and I are committed to ensuring our immigration system is orderly and humane, and I believe we are making progress on that front.”
Since 2021, Mayorkas has admitted roughly 10 million immigrants, both legal and illegal, an influx that equates to one immigrant for every American birth. This huge population hurts ordinary Americans by lowering wages, diverting business investment away from workplace productivity, and driving up both home prices and mortgage rates.

Chmielewski said Kelly’s selection as Immigration Commissioner would not stop immigration.
But that’s what her supporters are saying.
The twin issues of guns and the border “are likely to be Harris’ greatest political weaknesses in the campaign, given the challenges of carrying out the vague mandate Biden has given her of addressing the ‘root causes’ of illegal immigration.” I have written Erica Smith, Bloomberg Op-ed Writer: “Republicans have tried hard to paint Harris as a failed border secretary and make that assumption stick. Kelly would upend that perception.”

“Mr. Kerry’s special appeal, beyond what other vice presidential candidates from battleground states can offer, is his expertise on the technical issues and politics of the U.S.-Mexico border, which supporters say is perhaps Ms. Harris’ greatest weakness,” The New York Times said on July 26, adding:
Kelly’s border policy includes barriers like Trump’s wall in some areas, though not all of the border, and he also calls for an immigration policy that respects immigrants and preserves the option of asylum.
“Mark is in a perfect position to say, ‘I represent those border states over there. I know exactly what’s going on,'” said Democratic strategist Adam Kinsey. Said TheHill.com. “This will allow Democrats to have an expert on the situation speak authoritatively.”
Pete Buttigieg wants to make it “very clear” that Kamala Harris “was not in charge of the border.”
He is lying. Here is how the news reported Kamala’s appointment as Border Patrol Chief:
