Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday criticized Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe Jr. for appearing to avoid questions.

Rowe testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump following the resignation of former U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.
Cruz alleged that the acting director did not answer questions about the number of investigators assigned to Trump compared to President Joe Biden, or about the bureau’s “decision-making process.”
cruise: “I believe that Secret Service leaders made a political decision to deny these requests, and I believe the Biden administration is steeped in partisan politics… Did the same people who denied requests for additional security for President Trump also repeatedly deny requests for security for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose father was murdered by assassins and whose uncle was also murdered by assassins? Did the same people make that decision?”
Row: “Senator, I would say that Secret Service agents are not political.”
Despite an earlier request, the Secret Service did not provide protection to independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. until the assassination attempt on Trump, at which point Trump himself requested that the independent be given additional protection, especially given Kennedy’s history of family assassinations.
cruise: “It’s a simple question: yes or no. Did the same people who denied Trump’s request also deny RFK’s request? It’s a yes or no question.”
Row: “Senator, this is not a yes or no question. First, there is a process by which nominees receive protections. It is a bicameral, bipartisan process.”
As the two continued to talk and argue with each other, Cruz told Rowe that his use of the term “bicameral” was incorrect because he is not a member of Congress.
Secret Service officials said there were not enough personnel to protect Trump because the NATO summit was taking place in Washington, DC, and First Lady Jill Biden was holding a campaign event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Daily Caller.
cruise: “How large was Trump’s security force compared to the security forces assigned to the president and first lady?”
Row: “Senators, former presidents, just like the president, are traveling full shifts.”
Cruz then asked Lowe to clarify whether they were “exactly the same size.”
Row: “The number of agents surrounding Mr. Butler that day is the same as the number of agents surrounding the president today.”
The Texas senator interjected after his final remarks to clarify his use of the word “president.” [his] In Butler, Pennsylvania, testimony suggests that Donald Trump had the same number of security guards as Joe Biden. [comparable] event.”
Mr Rowe grew frustrated and insisted he was “trying to answer”.
cruise: “You haven’t answered. Are the number of agents the same or different? President, you are refusing to answer honestly.
Law tries to interject.
cruise: “Sir, please stop interrupting me. Please stop interrupting me. You are refusing to answer a clear and direct question. I am asking about the relative difference in the number of agents assigned to Donald Trump and Joe Biden. I am not asking why Joe Biden is assigned so many agents.”
As the testimony and discussion became more heated, Lowe finally told Cruz he would give him the exact numbers so he could see them “for himself.”
Meanwhile, Rowe used Tuesday’s hearing to highlight the communication breakdown that occurred during Butler’s case, alleging that data about Crooks was “stuck” and “siloed” in local law enforcement channels.
Row: “The only information we had was that locals were searching in the direction of 3 p.m., to the right of the former president, where the shooting occurred. There was no information that there was a man on the roof, a man with a gun, or anything like that. That information never made it into our net.”
But Rowe’s final statement is in stark contradiction to other news reports and testimony from local police.
The FBI has yet to reveal a motive for the assassination attempt. CNN On Tuesday, the newspaper reported that Andrew Trouba, CEO of the website Gab, claimed he had been contacted by police last week and told that the would-be assassin may have had an account on another of his social media platforms. According to Trouba, the said account was “pro-Biden.”
