Nicola Peltz Beckham is suing a Westchester dog groomer for killing her beloved dog, Nala.
The 29-year-old actress is alleging that Hound Spa in Mount Kisco is responsible for the death of her Chihuahua, who died just hours after being treated for a routine grooming by unqualified employees, according to court documents. Obtained by TMZ.
According to the lawsuit, the groomer in question, Johnny Ceballos, has a history of “intentional and malicious abuse of dogs.”
Peltz-Beckham also criticized Hound Spa for continuing to employ Ceballos as a staff member despite numerous complaints that he was abusing animals.
What happened during the grooming session is not included in the lawsuit, but Peltz-Beckham said on Instagram that Nala “hyperventilated and couldn’t breathe.”
The “Lola” actress, who is married to David and Victoria Beckham’s son Brooklyn, 25, rushed the 9-year-old puppy to the vet, where he died.
Veterinary records show Nala, who the Peltz-Beckhams treated “like their own child,” had fluid in her lungs, neurological problems and a fast heart rate before her death, a source previously told TMZ.
HoundSpa did not immediately respond to The Washington Post’s request for comment.
Peltz Beckham has openly expressed her suspicions on social media that the dog spa may have contributed to Nala’s death, even claiming that her other dog, Angel, would become frightened and scream when left alone after a grooming session at the hound spa.
“Be careful who you leave your dog with because you never know what’s going on behind the door. A day without Nala feels like an eternity and I want to hold her in my arms again,” Peltz Beckham says. I wrote this earlier this month.
In another post, she claimed Hound Spa had stopped cooperating with her legal team and vowed to do everything in her power to “make sure this never happens to another family because the pain is excruciating.”
“My brain can’t understand where you went. It just hurts so much.” Written by a Westchester native.
Peltz Beckham is seeking compensatory and punitive damages in her lawsuit, but has said she will donate any money she receives to dog rescue organizations.
