As major league teams jockeyed ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, Brandon Nimmo and his wife, Chelsea, announced what may have been the day’s biggest acquisition.
The couple announced in a social media post that they are expecting their first child in December.
“The sweetest birthday present,” Chelsea wrote on Instagram before Metz’s 2-0 win. “A little blessing in December.”
The Instagram post included a photo of Brandon and Chelsea standing side by side, both holding mini-sized No. 9 Nemo jerseys.
The caption includes the hashtags “#babynimmo” and “#babygirl,” likely indicating that the couple is expecting a daughter.
The two got engaged in 2015 and married in 2017.
Although their relationship has remained private, Nimmo, 31, has posted plenty of photos of the couple on social media from their time together.
Their most recent post together was way back in February, when the Mets outfielder shared a post taken by Chelsea of the pair in Port St. Lucie, Fla., during spring training.
“Had a great evening meeting all the new members of the Mets family,” the caption read.
Nimmo has been a part of the Mets organization since being selected 13th overall in 2011 and made his MLB debut in 2016.

The outfielder set a career high with his 10th stolen base of the season in Tuesday’s win over the Twins, making him 10-of-10 successful stolen base attempts in 2024.
Nimmo also received praise from former Mets captain David Wright, who was at the game.
“He’s one of, if not the leader, of the clubhouse,” Wright told SNY. “It’s been really fun to watch him develop, not just as a player, but as a leader and teammate. I can’t say enough good things about Brandon. He’s one of my favorite players that I’ve played with and one of my favorite players to watch right now, and I think he provides a role model.”
“I tell my kids, ‘Do you see Brandon Nimmo?’ That’s the way the game is played, that’s the way you go about your business.”
Nimmo finished Tuesday’s game with a hit, a walk and a run scored.
