The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia announced that Sean Patrick Cirillo, 34, of Atlanta, has pleaded guilty to making interstate threats to harm Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (D-Mass.).

The plea comes after Cirillo made multiple threats against Rep. Green (R-GA) and her staff in Washington, DC in November 2023.

Media outlets refrained from publishing Cirillo’s photo, and social media users expressed outrage on Twitter, arguing that if the tables were turned and Republicans were threatening Democratic congresswomen, their photos would be published in multiple outlets.

“Making death threats against public servants is reprehensible behavior,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan. “My office does not tolerate violence, threats or intimidation of any kind against public servants. Prosecuting individuals who threaten the lives and welfare of public servants is a top priority not only for my office, but also for our federal, state and local law enforcement partners.”

Special Agent in Charge Kelly Farley, head of the FBI’s Atlanta office, also released a statement.

“Violent threats, whether targeted at public officials or private citizens, will not be normalized in the United States. Our democracy depends on our members being able to do their jobs without fear for their safety. We will continue to prosecute threats against public officials in any form,” Farley said.

During three calls to Rep. Greene’s office on Nov. 8,NumberIn 2023, Cirillo made various threats against her life.

The threats included, “I’m coming for her. Like a sniper rifle. A sniper rifle. I’m going to kill her next week. I’m going to kill her,” as well as “I’ll kill you if you want me to,” and “You’re going to die. Your family’s going to die.”

Cirillo is not the first person to face charges in connection to threatening Georgia lawmakers. Joseph Morelli, of Endicott, New York, pleaded guilty to calling Greene’s office in 2022 and leaving an abusive voicemail and was sentenced to three months in prison last year.
