During the Sept. 12, 2019 Democratic debate, then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris promised to ban AR-15s through executive action.
She did this after then-presidential candidate Joe Biden. I rejected the ideaThey argued that the Constitution did not provide authority for such action.
Harris fired back at Biden, saying, “Joe, instead of saying, ‘I can’t,’ say, ‘I can.'”
“Yes, I can,” she continued, describing how she’s seen autopsy photos, attended a police officer’s funeral and hugged the mother of a murder victim, and said those experiences would motivate her to tour Congress.
“The notion that we should wait for an idle Congress to act simply ignores the fact that every day in America, children go to school and get disciplined,” Harris said. [how to hide from mass shooters].”
Ten days after the assassination attempt on President Trump, Harris pushed for an “assault weapons” ban, red flag laws and universal background checks.
During a Senate hearing on the July 30, 2024 assassination attempt on President Trump, Democratic Senators Mazie Hirono and Dick Durbin targeted AR-15 rifles. Breitbart News reported that Senator Hirono criticized the “accessibility” of AR-15s, and Senator Durbin similarly denounced the “accessibility of AR-15 rifles” during the hearing.
