‘Are They Really Trying to Get the Facts, or Are They Just Trying to Cover Their Rear Ends?’

Appearing on FNC’s “Hannity” on Tuesday, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) questioned the credibility of the Secret Service and its acting director, Ronald Roe, in their claims to be investigating the truth surrounding the assassination attempt on former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Earlier in the day, after Rowe testified before a Senate committee, Hawley suggested the Secret Service was using a “clean up” tactic in answering lawmakers’ questions.

“Can you explain to me why Donald Trump was allowed on stage, as we talked about today, 17 minutes after a suspicious person was reported,” Hannity asked. “Can we get an answer? Can we get an answer as to why they claimed it was a sloped roof when I fell off a roof that was almost three stories high, and why they didn’t put people around me when I was a roofer and it wasn’t a sloped roof? They didn’t put sniper eyes around me, because that seems to me very basic, very fundamental.”

“What I’ve heard from the whistleblower, Sean, is that there were in fact police officers stationed on that roof,” Hawley responded. “I asked the head of the Secret Service about it today and he said, hmm, I’m not sure. And I said, how come you don’t know? It’s been 17 days. But the reason is, Sean, the Secret Service has never even spoken to a local police officer. Since the shooting, they haven’t looked at any of the local police officers’ remains for interviews. Zero.”

“So it begs the question, what’s going on? Are they really trying to get the facts or are they just trying to clean up after themselves? And it seems to me like the latter. The American people deserve to know the truth here, not a bunch of whitewashing and stonewalling and bureaucratic shenanigans. They deserve to know the truth. And I’m not going to stop advocating until we actually get it.”
