Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance blasted Sen. Kamala Harris over the Biden administration’s handling of the U.S.-Mexico border, telling reporters during a visit to the country on Thursday that “it’s hard to believe until you see it with your own eyes.”
“When people can come into this country and know they will never be deported, then we effectively have an open border,” Governor Vance said, speaking in Cochise County, Arizona.
“You won’t believe how terrible the Kamala Harris administration’s policies have been when it comes to the southern border until you see it for yourself,” Vance said. “Once this administration took office and Kamala Harris took office, the administration stopped deportations from day one. They stopped construction of the border wall.”
“The border wall is waiting to be completed behind us, but it can’t happen because of the Kamala Harris administration. They’ve reinstated capture and release measures and the stay-in-Mexico ban,” he continued. “So, all asylum seekers who come to the border can now be released into our country because they will not be forced to remain in Mexico while we adjudicate their asylum claims.”

Vance said the “human toll” of the ongoing migrant crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border is “something we can never forget.”
“There are children who cannot learn at school. [they] “Hospitals are overwhelmed with immigrant children who shouldn’t be there,” Vance said. “Wait times at some hospitals have exploded because illegal immigrants are getting in line ahead of Americans.”
“The media needs to tell the truth and Kamala Harris needs to change course on this crazy border, border chaos, otherwise it’s the people who can least afford to suffer who will suffer the most,” he asserted.

Vance also said border security is “not rocket science.”
“We need to reinstitute common sense policies. We need to reinstitute a remain-in-Mexico policy. We need to end capture and release,” he said. “We need to force these asylum seekers to remain in Mexico until their claims are reviewed. And we need to complete this border wall and reinstitute deportations.”

In a statement to Fox News Digital on Thursday, Harris’ campaign noted that a group of Arizona border mayors endorsed her this week, saying, “We praise Harris for her long history of fighting to secure the border and fix our broken immigration system, including her work as California Attorney General to pursue international criminal organizations trafficking arms and drugs, and her tough White House border policies that have reduced border crossings to their lowest levels in years.”
