Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich free.
A senior U.S. government official confirmed to Fox News on Thursday morning that Gershkovich and Marine Corps veteran Paul Whelan had returned to the U.S. following a major political prisoner swap involving the U.S. and Russia. Another U.S. citizen, Arus Kurmasheva, and green card holder Vladimir Kara-Murza were also released.
Gershkovich, 32, who works for The Wall Street Journal, was arrested on March 29, 2023 while covering a trip to the Ural Mountain city of Yekaterinburg and charged with espionage. The Biden administration declared he was “wrongfully detained,” and both the Wall Street Journal and the U.S. government strongly denied the charges, calling them absurd on their face.
Whelan had been languishing in a Russian detention facility for years, and a source told Fox News that Turkish intelligence played a key role in brokering the prisoner exchange.…read more
