Chevron Corp. announced plans Friday to relocate its headquarters from California to Texas.
The company said senior executives, including Chevron Chairman and CEO Mike Wirth and Vice Chairman Mark Nelson, will relocate to Houston by the end of 2024.
“It’s a tough place to invest.”
The move will not immediately affect employees based in San Ramon, where the company currently has its headquarters, but the company said: press releaseChevron plans to move “all corporate functions” to Houston over the next five years.
Chevron said its “positions supporting its California operations will remain in San Ramon.”
The company already has about 7,000 employees in Houston and another 2,000 in San Ramon.

“We rejected a capital project in California because state policies make the state a difficult place to invest,” Andy Waltz, Chevron’s president of Americas products, said at the time.

“We are proud that California is in a leading position to create clean energy jobs, which are a vital part of our diverse, innovative and vibrant economy,” the spokesperson added.
Many businesses, opposed to California’s progressive policies, decided to pack their bags and head to Republican-leaning states.
Last month, Musk announced plans to move SpaceX and its headquarters to Texas after Democrats passed a bill to do so. AB1955A law banning schools from requiring parents to inform them of their child’s gender or sexual orientation.
“This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many previous ones that attack both families and businesses, SpaceX will be relocating our headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas,” Musk wrote to X.

“I’m tired of having to avoid groups of violent drug addicts just to get in and out of my building,” he added.
Musk already moved Tesla’s headquarters to Austin earlier this year.
Several insurance companies also fled the state.
In response to Chevron’s announcement, Texas Governor Greg Abbott wrote: X“Welcome back, Chevron! Texas is your true home. Keep it up, keep it up.”
