Denny’s fans are furious after the restaurant’s popular “slam” breakfast plate has tripled in price in recent years.
The chain that brought “Moons Over My Hammy” to the world is the latest fast-food restaurant to embrace the trend of brands saddled with inflation and rising labour costs due to new minimum wage laws dramatically raising prices.
Recent post The inflation subreddit has posted a photo of a Denny’s menu, which shows the “Lumberjack Slam,” a popular breakfast dish that includes two buttermilk pancakes, a slice of grilled ham, two strips of bacon, two sausages, two eggs, hash browns, and two slices of toast for $17.99.
This hefty price doesn’t include the premium option to upgrade your pancakes to double berry banana, cinnamon roll or “chocolate nana” for an extra $3.09, bringing your total before tax and tip to $21.08.
“Denny’s: You can order $18 food for one person instead of cooking 4 at home for the same price,” one sarcastic commenter wrote.
Another user, who worked at Denny’s throughout the 1990s, pointed out that the restaurant’s Grand Slam cost $1.99 at the time.
“In the old days, older folks would frequent the store for a couple of cups of coffee and a couple of Grand Slam matches, some of whom would leave with a bill of less than $10,” he wrote.

The original poster did not say which state the Denny’s he ate at was in, but said the total bill for him, his wife and daughter was $78 for “three meals, two coffees, plus a 20% tip.”
“My usual breakfast place is a bit posh, but it’s cheaper than this awful place,” he said.
A recent study has revealed the disturbing impact that California’s new $20 an hour minimum wage law for fast food workers has had on the industry.
Popular chains like McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Burger King, which have relied on families for affordable meals for decades, have been raising prices to make up for rising employee wages.
All three restaurants have seen a decline in customer traffic since California’s law went into effect on April 1, according to a report from analytics firm Placer.ai.
Burger King sales fell 3.86%, Wendy’s slid 3.24% and McDonald’s slid 2.5%.
