Rioting in England over a mass stabbing at a children’s dance party continued in Sunderland on Friday night, when hundreds of people turned to violence, setting buildings on fire and injuring three police officers.
Northumbria Police Said Police said they faced “serious and sustained violence” on Friday night, which they described as “utterly deplorable.” Eight people have been arrested so far on charges ranging from theft to violent disorder, they said.
A total of three police officers were injured during the riots, two of whom remained hospitalized for further treatment as of press time.

It was the latest in a series of violence in England following a mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift children’s dance party in Southport, Merseyside on Monday, which left three girls dead and eight injured in the attack, allegedly carried out by a teenager of Rwandan descent.
Similar to the riots seen in Southport earlier this week, rioters hurled bricks and clashed with police outside the mosque. Guardian Reports.
Chief Superintendent Helena Barron of Northumbria Police said in a statement: Said“The shocking scenes witnessed in Sunderland tonight are completely unacceptable.
“I want to be clear that the chaos, violence and damage that has occurred will not be tolerated.”

The Sunderland riots again drew swift condemnation from politicians in Westminster, including Home Secretary Yvette Cooper. Said“Police have the full support of the government to take the strongest possible action and ensure they face the full force of the law.”
“They do not represent the UK,” Cooper added.
Former Home Secretary and current Conservative leadership candidate Priti Patel also took a hard line, arguing that the new Labour government and its successor at the Home Office had not done enough to quell the violent riots.
“What we witnessed last night in Sunderland was completely unacceptable, as was the case in Southport earlier this week and Harehills in Leeds two weeks ago,” she said. Said.

“No matter who is in charge, there must be no condoning or excuses for chaos. Violence and thuggery will never be tolerated. There are no exceptions or qualifications. Politicians from all walks of life should stand up and say so.”

But the government has responded to the unrest over the mass stabbing of children by setting up new riot police units and using facial recognition technology to track rioters.
The new Chancellor, Sir Keir Starmer, vowed to bring to bear the “full force of the law” on those involved, tackle “far-right hatred” and protect local Muslim communities from backlash over the mosque’s windows being smashed.
