Aaron Rodgers and the Jets were at the wheel during Saturday’s “Green and White” scrimmage, but the march was interrupted by a mistake that Robert Saleh hopes to correct before the regular season begins.
Starting center Joe Tippmann kicked the ball over Rodgers’ head for a 22-yard loss.
“We have to continue to work hard,” Saleh said after practice.[Tippmann] He’s been doing well for a few days, but today the conditions got a little tougher and he lost his rhythm. So, I’ll continue to train with him.”
Tippman played center at Wisconsin, but as a second-round draft pick in 2023, he played a few games at right guard as a rookie with the Jets last season before moving back to the middle of the offensive line due to various injuries.
Tippman and Rodgers have been working on the timing throughout camp after the 40-year-old quarterback missed most of last season with an Achilles injury.
“It’s a bit of a technique thing,” Saleh said. “It’s not a mental thing. He’s not upset. Like I said, we’re trying to get the most out of him athletically and we’re asking him to do some things from an athletic standpoint.”
“We’re pushing him. He’s got to learn timing, rhythm, all that stuff. He’ll get it under control. That’s one of the things I’m least worried about.”

Cornerback Sauce Gardner did not participate in the practice squad.
Saleh said he missed practice on Friday because he had “personal matters to take care of.”
Gardner’s flight home was canceled Friday night because of bad weather. [Saturday] “In the morning I had no intention of exposing him to injury after the move,” Saleh added.
Cornerback Michael Carter II is expected to be out “a week or two” with an ankle injury, Saleh said.
“It’s nothing long term, nothing broken, I just need to let my ankle heal,” he said.
