Police in Washington, D.C., arrested a Texas woman on Friday on suspicion of threatening former President Trump and illegally possessing a firearm.
The woman, Cristina Montoya, was arrested after traveling to the capital.
The Metropolitan police said they were first alerted about her by the Secret Service.
“Following an investigation by detectives, Christina Montoya, 41, of San Antonio, Texas, was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm and making threats against a former president,” police said in a statement.
Authorities say Montoya’s threats against Trump began on July 20.
According to the police report, police found the woman’s vehicle and recovered a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield pistol, a magazine and a gun lock.
The incident came just weeks after Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate President Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump was shot in the ear and barely survived the attack.
The assassination attempt is now the subject of multiple investigations by the FBI, the Secret Service, and Congress.
Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned after disastrous hearings in which both Republicans and Democrats called for her removal.

The investigation is centered on what building Crooks used as a base from which to fire on the former president and why the building was outside of Secret Service security.
