Team USA easily wins gold in golf uniforms at 2024 Olympics, the 3 best, 3 worst team fits

The men’s golf competition has officially concluded, with the U.S. team winning their second consecutive Olympic gold medal.

Scottie Scheffler shot a 9-under 61 to add a gold medal to her growing trophy collection.

Tommy Fleetwood won the silver medal for Great Britain, and Hideki Matsuyama won the bronze medal for Japan.

But I’m not here to talk about the athletes’ physical performances at Le Golf National: the Olympics are also a golden opportunity for fashion.

It’s interesting to look at the costumes the athletes wear at the Olympics: there are the outfits for the opening ceremony, the tracksuits for the medal ceremony, and the outfits they wear during competitions.

However, in this article we will focus only on athletic wear.

Remember, golf fashion is subjective – there is no right answer and it all comes down to personal perspective.

We looked at all 32 competing countries and found the three best and three worst team uniforms.

The only change to the rankings is that, similar to the Olympics, gold, silver and bronze will now be awarded to the most stylish teams.

These six are my picks. Playthrough Golf fashion experts take a look at the three best and three worst uniforms.

The 3 best team uniforms for the 2024 Olympics

Bronze: Team New Zealand

New Zealand golfers Ryan Fox and Daniel Hillier both wore simple black and white outfits this week. They opted for a more classic style, but with a purpose. If you look closely, you’ll notice that their polo shirts and hats have feathers on them. This symbol represents the New Zealand rugby team, the All Blacks.

I was so happy that they chose to honor their team, so I awarded them the bronze medal.

Silver Medal: Team Ireland

The Irish team won the silver medal for being patriotic without going overboard, wearing their uniform in green, white and orange, the colours of the Irish flag, as worn by Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

The brand they were wearing also had navy blue, so I chose silver, which although not a national color, works well with all three.

Needless to say, McIlroy’s shoes are super cool! They have a trendy Irish flag look without being too flashy. Plus, they’re paired with a soft green polo shirt, navy pants, white and orange shoes, and a white hat to balance things out.

Gold Medal: Team USA

The US team has changed its costume for the 2024 Olympics. Normally they wear Ralph Lauren, one of the most iconic American brands, but this year they chose J. Lindbergh.

Fans were not thrilled that a Swedish clothing company designed the US team uniforms. Many felt that they should wear American brands. It is understandable why many felt that way, but J. Lindberg did a great job of expressing patriotism without resembling past years.

In recent years, the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup national team outfits have looked similar and dated, but this collection is different. It’s bold and trendy without being too flashy. And no matter how much I hate it, it was one of the most unique collections out of the 32 countries.

The team outfit on Sunday was one of my favorites. The navy pants with red and white stripes down the side were different from everyone else’s. The red, white and blue polo shirts were classic and not too flashy. Plus, most of the pieces were not too flashy.

J. Lindbergh tailored outfits to fit each player perfectly, earning them bonus points.

The 3 worst team uniforms for the 2024 Olympics

3. Team Norway

2024 Olympics, Viktor Hovland

The Norwegian team ranks third on the worst uniforms list because of this polo shirt. Viktor Hovland rarely wears something I don’t like, but this polo shirt is totally ugly. We’ve seen this pattern many times over the past few weeks. At the Olympics, there should be special outfits to represent your country, so why did Puma roll this out to the Norwegian team?

Either way, my opinion hasn’t changed: it’s still vulgar.

Why are the collars different colors?

Puma wanted to go Nordic, but when they put golf clubs, tees, and balls on a polo shirt, it quickly took on the vibe of a lame Christmas sweater. The golf element makes it seem less serious. I get that they play golf. I wouldn’t have disliked the shirt so much without the symbols.

2. Team Canada

Next up was the Canadian team, because their competition wear was all over the place: polka-dot polo shirts and bright red pants, 20 shades of grey, and a loud red and black camo outfit.

Whoever designed the style for this team executed it poorly. Team Canada has guys like Nick Taylor who always look pretty cool when he tee’s off on the PGA Tour. I’m all for team colors, but this is just too much. It’s dated and cheesy.

There was way too much red tops and white bottoms combo this week (including the US team). It all looked jumbled together. It felt like the brand was being lazy with the script.

1. Team Australia

The worst uniform this week is by far the Australian team uniform. Someone help the Australian uniform. It’s awful. When the sun hits it just right it’s blindingly bright.

Jason Day looks amazing on the course in his Malbon Golf uniform, but the Australian team uniform is awful. The colors clash and the pattern is outdated. Asics should have provided a high crowned visor instead of this low one. Day looks like he’s wearing one of those crazy football visors with spiked hair built into it.

Ming Woo Lee also looked washed out in this color, and while he’s another typically great looking guy, these options were awful – they didn’t fit him well, which exacerbated why this is the worst team uniform ever.

The Australian team needs a makeover!
