Jennifer Garner has been spending her time in the gym training in preparation for reprising her role as Elektra in the upcoming film, Deadpool & Wolverine.
Garner explained on Instagram on Monday that while she was in good shape while filming Elektra 20 years ago, her fitness wasn’t good enough for a Marvel movie.
In the video, Garner, 52, shows off the challenging workout routines that are helping her get in tip-top shape for her action-packed cameo, and she recalls when Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy approached her about reprising her role for Deadpool 3.

“We were on the set of The Adam Project and they had the look on their faces where they could pass ideas, 20 pages of dialogue and nuclear codes to each other. They have crazy artistic destiny,” Garner captioned the post.
“I hadn’t picked up an Elektra Rhino since 2004, except to try and convince my kids’ preschool friends that it was actually a ninja. I was healthy, but not Marvel healthy,” she continued.
“I was healthy, but Marvel wasn’t healthy.”
Garner explained that in preparation for Electra’s return, she’s incorporated swimming, weightlifting, boxing, running, trampolining and balance exercises.

“Elektra and I didn’t know we needed an ending, but Shawn and Ryan did. They are talented in so many ways, but their number one priority is to see and elevate those around them,” Garner continued. “Shauna and I were in heaven on set with them and my old friends Hugh Jackman, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum and the real Wesley Snipes. Filming the fight was so much fun with everyone together. It was truly a dream come true.”
The actress concluded, “I’m so proud of my friends and grateful to have been on stage with them. Thank you guys isn’t enough, but until I can figure out what’s missing, this is a good substitute.”
