It Has Become ‘More Acceptable’ Among Democrats to Hate Israel

Republican Jewish Coalition CEO Matt Brooks told Breitbart News at the Republican National Convention last month that anti-Israel sentiment has “become more acceptable” among Democrats.

Brooks spoke to Breitbart News shortly after his speech at the convention, in which Israel was met with a huge ovation, as Breitbart News reported at the time:

“If you support Israel, cheer for me!” Brooks urged the delegates, who elicited loud cheers. “If someone did that at the Democratic Convention, they would be booed off the stage,” Brooks continued. “But here at the Republican Convention, we proudly and loudly support Israel.”

Brooks reflected on the growing sentiment of intolerance toward Israel among Democrats that surfaced in 2012 when a loud vote was taken on the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, against the reinstatement of pro-Israel provisions in the party platform. (Party leaders ignored the louder “no” vote.)

That was “the canary in the coal mine,” Brooks said. “It’s only getting worse, and most importantly, it’s become more acceptable. Before, if you were anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian, pro-Hamas, whatever it was, you were more subdued. Now it’s out in the open. Now it’s completely out in the open: ‘Israel is a genocidal state,’ ‘Israel is an apartheid state,’ ‘Israel is committing war crimes,’ etc. All of the rhetoric coming out of the Democratic Party is seen as completely acceptable, and rather than being condemned, it is tolerated.”

Brooks is confident that Republicans will increase their share of the Jewish vote in 2024, especially given Biden’s weak Israel policy.

Regarding those within the “America First” movement who are skeptical of foreign engagement, Brooks cited Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio). speech In an interview with the Quincy Institute, a think tank that opposes US intervention overseas, Vance defended US support for Israel, saying the US has always had an interest in the Holy Land.
