Ex-Trump adviser Conway registers as lobbyist for Ukrainian oligarch

Former adviser to President Trump, Kellyanne Conway, is registered to lobby on behalf of a Ukrainian oligarch, according to new foreign agent disclosure documents.

Conway registered Friday as a lobbyist for the foundation of Ukrainian billionaire Victor Pinchuk. According to the filing: Uploaded by the Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, the document suggests she intends to negotiate with US lawmakers and experts on Ukrainian interests and raise awareness of “Ukrainians’ fight for freedom and Russia’s illegal war of aggression.”

She also plans to make “best efforts” to persuade U.S. lawmakers to attend the annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy Forum, to be held in Kiev on September 13-14, according to the filing.

According to the filing, Conway is registered as a representative of the UK office of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, which it describes as “a private, non-partisan charity registered in the UK whose primary focus is the promotion of the arts, sciences, philanthropy, benevolence and charitable purposes in or relating to Ukraine.”

The filing states that Victor Pinchuk “owns and controls” the foundation, that the Ukrainian government does not control or own the foundation, and that the Ukrainian government is “the primary beneficiary of the registrant’s activities directed by its foreign representatives.”

The filing also includes an agreement between Conway and the foundation under which she will be paid $50,000 a month, starting July 25 and running until November 14, according to the documents.

The latest move by Conway, a top official on President Trump’s 2016 campaign, to head Pinchuk’s foundation comes as many Republican lawmakers remain hesitant to approve additional aid to Ukraine. Trump has previously suggested additional aid could come in the form of a loan and has repeatedly claimed he could end the war within 24 hours if he were in the White House.

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Trump’s running mate, led the opposition to the Ukraine bailout, raising concerns among Republican senators who support Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

In 2015, Trump’s charitable foundation received $150,000 from the Victor Pinchuk Foundation in exchange for a 2015 speech that Trump delivered via video at Pinchuk’s annual conference later that year.
