Former President Trump’s campaign on Tuesday criticized Vice President Harris’ choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (Democrat) as her running mate, calling Walz a “West Coast impostor.”
“It’s no surprise that San Francisco liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast wannabe Tim Walz as her running mate, after all, during his time as governor he has tried to remake Minnesota in the image of the Golden State,” Trump campaign spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said in a statement.
On Tuesday morning, Harris picked Waltz as her running mate, with the former congressman emerging as a dark horse candidate and gaining popularity after repeatedly calling Republicans “wackos” — a trope that Harris’ campaign has embraced.
The selection drew praise from both progressive and moderate Democrats.
The Trump campaign has criticized Waltz’s progressive policy positions, saying he is “pretending to stand up for Midwestern Americans.”
“From proposing his own carbon-free policies, to calling for tougher emissions standards for gasoline-powered vehicles, to supporting a policy that would allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal policies,” Leavitt’s statement said.
“Tim Waltz will bring hell on earth,” the Trump campaign said in a message to supporters.
In an email last week, shortly after Harris made a stop in Atlanta, Trump vowed to “unleash hell” at a rally in the city.
upon Donation sitePresident Trump repeated that claim and his criticism of Waltz.
“He will unleash hell on earth and open our borders to the worst criminals imaginable,” the site said. “He will approve Kamala’s new green scam and burn trillions of dollars.”
Harris and Walz are scheduled to visit several battleground states this week, starting in Philadelphia on Tuesday, and also visiting Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona and Nevada.
Republicans are likely to criticize Walz’s policy positions on abortion and LGBTQ issues, as they have done with Harris, and portray him as a radical liberal.
“If Walz won’t tell the truth to voters, we will. Like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is a dangerous liberal extremist, and Harris and Walz’s California Dream is every American’s nightmare,” Leavitt said.
