The Biden-Harris administration announced Monday it would expand the controversial CBP One App illegal immigration program to make it easier for migrants to enter the U.S. The expansion of the program, which has never been approved by Congress, would allow migrants near Mexico’s southern border to enter the United States.
“Migrants will soon be able to make appointments from the states of Tabasco and Chiapas, allowing migrants to avoid having to travel all the way north to make an appointment,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in the Biden-Harris administration said in a written statement Monday.
“We remain in constant communication with our partners in the Mexican government and work together to adjust our policies and practices in response to the latest migration trends and security needs,” CBP said.
In June, the most recent statistics available from CBP, about 42,000 migrants used the CBP One app to book appointments to enter the U.S. according to Monthly updates provided by the agency.
“Since the introduction of the CBP One™ appointment scheduling feature in January 2023, by the end of June 2024, 680,500 “Instead of risking their lives at the hands of smugglers, individuals can now successfully secure appointments at immigration checkpoints,” officials reported.
On the same day that the Biden-Harris Administration announced the expansion of the CBP One program, the House Judiciary Committee Revealed It said “at least three illegal immigrants with possible ISIS ties” were released into the US after using the app to enter the country.
According to the Judiciary Committee report, the three Tajik nationals used the CBP One app to schedule appointments to travel to the US, but their ISIS ties were not discovered until they entered the US.
Last year, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas touted the screening capabilities of the CBP One program, which he claimed would allow DHS to “screen and screen individuals before they arrive at the border.”
Allowing entry to Tajikistani nationals with ties to ISIS “exposes the dangers of a Biden-Harris border crisis by allowing even potential terrorists to avoid ‘background checks’ at the southwest border,” the report concluded.
