Former NFL player Jacoby Jones has died from hypertensive cardiovascular disease, according to multiple reports.
The 40-year-old, who won a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2013, was found dead at his New Orleans home on July 14.
His death Described as natural.
Jones was drafted in the third round by Houston out of Lane College in 2007 and went on to play nine seasons in the NFL as a receiver and kick returner for the Texans, Ravens, Steelers and Chargers.
“My heartfelt condolences to the Jones family,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said at the start of training camp. “Jacoby was my teammate here for five years. He was hilarious, loving, caring, a great teammate, a dance machine and a fun guy to be around.
“He lit up any room he walked into with his incredible spirit. He will be truly missed. I was very sad to hear the news of his passing. My heart goes out to his family, all his teammates and everyone he touched. I remember Jacoby, he always did a great job at camps and working with the kids. Always did a great job. He will be missed.”
Jones had perhaps the biggest performance of his career in the 2013 Super Bowl, scoring on a 56-yard touchdown catch and a 108-yard kickoff return to lead Baltimore to a 34-31 win over the 49ers.
This came on the heels of a season in which he had 30 receptions for 406 yards and a touchdown, and 1,167 yards and two scores as a kick returner, earning All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors.
He finished his career after the 2015 season with 203 catches for 2,733 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns, along with 4,940 kick return yards and five trips to the end zone, before signing a one-day contract and retiring as a Raven in 2017.
