Unclaimed Navy veteran to be laid to rest in presence of community

An unclaimed Navy veteran will be buried in Wichita, Kansas, on Wednesday with local residents watching.

Stephen J. Morrison was born in 1958 and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1977.

Mr. Morrison died last month and is unclaimed by family, but full military honors will be given at his funeral, which will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Rest Haven Cemetery, Wichita, with the public cordially welcomed to attend.

Following the funeral, the Navy veteran will be laid to rest in perpetuity in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, with volunteers from the American Legion in Mulvane escorting his casket.

“They risked their lives to fight for us, and in my opinion, even though I’m not a veteran, it’s the least I can do to help them and give them the honor they deserve,” Hansen added.

The Department of Veterans Affairs and Dignity Memorial Services did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
