Reddy wins primary for Rep Davids’ seat that GOP is gunning to flip red

An India-born U.S. military veteran won the Republican primary for Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District on Tuesday, a seat Republicans hope to retake in November.

Dr. Prasanth Reddy, a former physician and current LabCorp executive, was highly expected to win the primary against opponent Karen Crnkovich.

Leddy has been endorsed by leading Republican lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana, and was just last week named to the National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) “Young Talent” list.

He will now face Rep. Sharice Davids of Kansas, a moderate Democrat seeking her fourth term in the House of Representatives.

“Extremist Democratic Congressman Sharice Davids is stoking crises on the border, crime and cost of living and wreaking havoc on the safety and security of Kansans. Prasanth Reddy is well positioned to flip Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District to Republicans in November and increase our House majority,” Delaney Bomar, a spokeswoman for the House Republican campaign arm, said last week.

Reddy raised more than $1.3 million during the primary, far surpassing Crnkovic’s total of just over $150,000.

But both sums are significantly lower than the $3 million raised by Davids.

Davids won her seat in the 2018 Democratic wave, becoming one of the first Native American women to be sworn in to Congress. She is also the only Democrat in Kansas’ congressional delegation.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report ranks her seat as a Republican+1 district, making her a top target for Republicans looking to maintain or expand their slim House majority.

Davids won the district by defeating incumbent former Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-Kansas) by just under 10 points and has been slowly widening his margin of victory since then.

The district is majority white, comprises a large portion of the Kansas City metropolitan area, and is also the least Republican of any congressional district in Kansas.
