At first glance at this circular device, your first question might be, “What is this strange wheel?”, followed by, “Who came up with this bizarre concept?”
That’s right, it’s called the Monowheel, and Make It Extreme is the manufacturer of the giant circular vehicle with a person sitting inside it like a futuristic hamster.
They’ve taken the gas-guzzling monowheel and made it into something eco-friendly. The result? A fully electric redesign that pushes the boundaries of personal transportation. Is it practical? Maybe not. Is it super cool? Absolutely. So let’s take a look at how this electric weirdo works.

Out with the old and in with the new
As the world moves towards a cleaner, greener future, even the most outlandish vehicles are being reimagined as electric. Make It Extreme’s latest offering is Project 149The is not just a rehash of previous gas-powered monowheels – this is a complete reinvention of the concept, with some pretty cool improvements added on top.

A three-wheeler or a two-wheeled electric scooter? How about both?
Beast Construction
If you thought building a regular bicycle was hard, look at what it takes to make an electric monowheel. The Make It Extreme team started from scratch and built everything from the massive 57″ outer wheel to the inner chassis. They Frankensteined the tire together using parts from three different bike tires. That’s recycling in a nutshell.

Powering the wheels
Here’s where it gets interesting: the team “borrowed” two motors from a hoverboard and fitted them inside a go-kart tire. This ingenious mechanism sits directly underneath the rider’s banana seat, providing the massive torque to move this monster.

Comfort and control
Believe it or not, they actually thought about rider comfort: the coil shock absorbs some of the bumps, the Shimano brake lever and twist throttle give you the illusion that you’re at least in control, and there’s even a kickstand for those moments when you need a break.

But is it practical?
Let’s be real. Despite the motorized upgrades and clever engineering, this monowheel is far from practical. It’s still hard to control and about as safe as riding a unicycle on a leash. But that doesn’t dampen our appetite for the monowheel. Needless to say, the folks at Make It Extreme are constantly looking for ways to evolve the monowheel to make it more practical and accessible so that everyone can ride it.

Important points about the cart
The electric monowheel may not revolutionize transportation anytime soon, and it may not be the most clever way to get around town, but it is certainly one of the most eye-catching. So, has this new construction changed our minds about the ridiculous nature of the monowheel? Not really. But it has reminded us that sometimes the most ridiculous ideas can lead to the most fascinating creations.
