Former President Trump responded Wednesday morning to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s nomination as Kamala Harris’ running mate, saying he “couldn’t be more excited” about the vice president’s “shocking choice.”

“He’s a very liberal guy and it’s a shocking choice. I couldn’t be more excited about it,” Trump told his “Fox & Friends” co-hosts in an exclusive interview.

Trump then recalled one of the “few” times he and Walz interacted, explaining that Waltz had contacted him for help after his home was surrounded by anti-lockdown protesters at the height of the pandemic.

“There was only one security guard, and I think he was at the mansion or his house,” he said. “He called me and I said, ‘What can I do?’ I was at the White House. He said, ‘Just advertise that I’m a good man.’ And I advertised, ‘He is a good man. I hope everything goes well.’ And they all took the flag down and brought the flag home.”

“But they left with American flags and MAGA flags. There were several thousand people there,” he continued.

The former president has warned that Walz is more extreme than Harris on key issues such as immigration and crime, and critics worry that the Harris-Waltz pair would be the most far-left in U.S. history.

“If you look at his record, there are no walls, no security, he lets anyone in. He’s worse than them,” he said. “No one knew how radical a leftist she was, but if you want the truth, he’s a smarter version of her.”

“We’ve never had a candidate like this before,” he continued. “This candidate wants the country to go communist soon, no sooner. We don’t want security. We don’t want anything. He’s very transgender. He thinks anything transgender is great, but the country is not for anything.”

Harris announced her choice of Walz as her running mate on Tuesday, just hours before the pair made their first public appearance together at a campaign rally in Philadelphia.

“I’m proud to have asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate,” Harris said in a formal announcement on X. “As a governor, coach, teacher and veteran, he has dedicated his life to working families like his own.”

The nomination of Walz, 60, was not a shock because his name was expected to be quickly floated as a contender less than two weeks after Harris became president of the party after succeeding President Biden.

“I think this is a shocking choice and I think it’s very offensive to Jewish people,” Trump said, “and I think it’s very offensive to people who seek safety. I think it’s very offensive to everything that has to do with making America great again.”
