Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who made his debut as the running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign on Tuesday, reportedly chose to get married on the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre and honeymoon in Communist China.
Waltz has been involved in education activities in China for many years, even before entering U.S. politics. Local media in Minnesota and his home state of Nebraska reported on his ties to China several times before he began his political career, and again when he ran for governor in 2018 and was elected.

After news began to spread that Waltz had been selected as the Democratic vice presidential nominee, several social media posts began circulating on Tuesday that appeared to show newspaper articles detailing Waltz’s work as an educator in China. One of Waltz’s final trips to China Occurred In 2015, he was part of a congressional delegation led by Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to visit Beijing and occupied Tibet. Upon returning from the visit, then-Rep. At the time of writing, the Chinese government has largely refrained from commenting on Waltz’s position in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
“The US presidential election is an internal matter of the US. We have no comment on it,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said on Wednesday.
