White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre avoided questions at a White House press conference on Wednesday about defamation allegations against Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate.
“Specific attacks or comments should be directed to the campaign,” she said. Said Before moving on to other parts of Waltz’s biography.
She said:
I’ve given his history, and you’ve seen it. He’s a guy who enlisted at 17 to serve his country. He was in the Army National Guard for 24 years. He’s a high school teacher, a high school coach, and he grew up in a small town in the Midwest. So I think his history says it all, and who he is, what he’s done says it all. I’m not going to say anything more than that.
Jean-Pierre did not address the specific accusations against Walz, who falsely claimed to have possessed weapons “in war.”
In the first video clip posted by the Harris campaign, Walz can be heard claiming that he has carried “weapons of war” in wars, but in his more than 24 years in the Army National Guard, Walz has never deployed to a “war” or combat zone.
Governor Tim WaltzI was in the Army for 25 years and I hunt. I’ve voted for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks. We can study the impact of gun violence. We can do war weapons. pic.twitter.com/3IVaXi2RP2

Additionally, he claims to be a retired sergeant major, but was demoted to that rank because he did not meet the requirements to be retired as a sergeant major, despite the fact that he has repeatedly bragged about being retired as a sergeant major.
Finally, he faces accusations that he abandoned his unit before it was ordered to deploy to Iraq: Veterans who served with him say that after his unit received orders to deploy to Iraq, he suddenly left the military before completing his contract.
