Best quotes from Day 1 of the 2024 Olympic women’s golf competition

“Oh, it’s awesome. Yeah, it’s definitely one of the best courses you’ll play all year. And the pins were strong today, which really surprised me. But the weather wasn’t too bad, so that was good.”

— Georgia Hall, Great Britain at Le Golf National

“I started to have a bit of imposter syndrome. I was like, why am I here now? But it’s OK. I’m just going to do my best and hopefully it will get better… but I’ll find a way to get out, because I always do.”

— Team USA’s Lilia Vu talks about warming up for the first round and fighting negative thoughts.

“It’s really amazing. I came here on Sunday and saw the guys’ crowd. It was the final round and I thought it was unbelievable. So we weren’t necessarily expecting it. But even early this morning when we teed off there was one person surrounded. It was an incredible atmosphere. It’s really cool that women’s golf is so popular at this event this week. It’s really exciting for golf.”

— Canada’s Brooke Henderson talks about the atmosphere at Olympic golf.

“It was exactly what I was thinking. I played on this golf course two years ago in the World Amateur and it was the same golf course so I thought it was very difficult. Obviously it was an amateur tournament but overall I thought they were equally difficult.”

Q. How was that week?

“I played well. I think we won.”

— Rose Chan talks about matching the difficulty of Le Golf National from the 2022 World Amateur Championship through to the 2024 Olympics.
