The White Sox have finally fired their manager.
Chicago fired Pedro Grifol on Thursday morning after an utterly dismal season that saw them finish 28-89 and 36.5 games out of the playoff zone.
Grifol, 54, led the team to a 61-101 record last year in his first season in the South.
“As we all recognize, the team’s performance this season has been disappointing in many ways,” White Sox general manager Chris Getz said in a statement. “Despite the on-field struggles and lack of success, we are grateful for the effort and professionalism that Pedro and his staff demonstrated every day on the ballpark.”
“The last two seasons have been very tough and unfortunately we didn’t get the results we wanted, but changes are necessary to look to the future and to create new energy in the team.”
The White Sox recently snapped an American League record-tying 21-game losing streak before beating the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday.
