Schweitzer said:[T]The key element here is not just the ties to China, but the ties to the Chinese Communist Party. As you pointed out, he had a student exchange program. It was funded by the Chinese government. All exchanges by the Chinese government are controlled by the Chinese Communist Party. And if you look at local Midwest news reports on students who participated in that program, they describe Walz as instructing the students to “downplay their Americanness” when they visit China. That’s a strange thing to say when you’re engaged in cultural exchange. … So this has all the hallmarks of a close relationship with the Chinese Communist Party. As you pointed out, he addressed a well-known United Front group in 2019 that has ties to Chinese intelligence. We also know that when he became governor of Minnesota, he invited Chinese diplomats to those events. And then there’s also the issue of these Chinese police stations that we’ve heard about. … One of them is in the Twin Cities, and it’s actually run by an organization that’s affiliated with a Walz support group. Now Governor Walz is denouncing the brutality of the Twin Cities police department. He’s not done anything about this unofficial Chinese police department.”
