A CrossFit Games athlete drowned during a swimming competition in Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth, Texas, on Thursday morning.
According to Fox 4Fort Worth police will not release the player’s identity until the Tarrant County coroner’s report is completed and the victim’s family is notified.
According to multiple reports, the athlete who went missing during a swimming event at the meet has been identified as Serbian athlete Lazar Djukic, 28.

Djukic was last seen near the end of the 800m swim, which was being live-streamed at the 2024 CrossFit Games.
The CrossFit Games later announced that the rest of the day’s competition would be canceled in light of the drowning.
“CrossFit is deeply saddened by the death of a CrossFit Games athlete during Individual Event 1 swimming competition at the 2024 CrossFit Games,” the statement said.

“We are cooperating fully with the authorities and are doing all we can to support the family at this time.
“The remainder of today’s event has been canceled. The well-being of our athletes is our top priority and we are heartbroken by this tragic event.”

According to the CrossFit website, the event began at 7 a.m. Thursday and included an 800-meter swim followed by a 3.5-mile run.
However, police and fire services were called out at about 8am and people in a helicopter spotted a boat searching around a buoy in the middle of the lake.
The body was later recovered by the Fort Worth Fire Department around 10 a.m.
The Fort Worth Police and Fire Departments did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

This is the first time the event has been held in Fort Worth. The CrossFit Games is a four-day competition that brings together athletes from 33 countries to compete for the title of “Fittest Athlete on Earth.”

Djukic has competed in multiple CrossFit Games in the past, ranking third in Serbia and 88th overall in the world among men.
