CrossFit athlete Lazar Dukich drowned during a swimming competition in Fort Worth, Texas, on Thursday, just 100 yards from the finish line, according to reports.
Dukic was seen struggling in the water near the end of a swimming competition in Maligne Creek Lake and suddenly Sunk At around 8:00 a.m. Daily Express.
The swimmers completed a 3.5 mile run before competing in the 800m swim event.
Emergency crews were unable to find Dukic’s body for over an hour before he was finally pulled from the water at about 10am.
Following the incident, the Serbian athlete’s body was recovered and the tournament’s activities were cancelled for the day.
“CrossFit is deeply saddened by the death of a CrossFit Games competitor during Individual Event 1 swimming competition at the 2024 CrossFit Games,” event organizers said in a social media post. Organizers added that they were working with authorities in investigating the tragedy.

CrossFit CEO Don Fall told media that the CrossFit community is “devastated” by the athlete’s death.

CrossFit athlete Cole Rahn told his Instagram followers that some of the other participants yelled for lifeguards to be called, but to no avail.
“For those of you who want to keep up with the CrossFit Games, we saw Lazar go underwater and we yelled out to the lifeguards,” he said. “We were pretty far away so it was hard to do anything else. But we were yelling out to the lifeguards, but unfortunately they didn’t hear us and he never resurfaced.”
“I’m really shocked. It was not something I wanted to see so I’m not replying to anyone if they message me,” he exclaimed.
