Harris takes questions, says she'll do full interview by end of August

Vice President Harris, answering questions from reporters accompanying her in Michigan on Thursday, said she hopes to do an extended interview by the end of the month.

Harris has come under criticism from the Trump campaign for refusing to take questions from reporters for nearly three weeks since announcing her candidacy for the White House after President Biden announced he would not seek reelection.

“I’ve spoken with my team and I hope to schedule an interview by the end of this month,” Harris said before boarding Air Force Two to Arizona.

The vice president also answered questions about plans for a debate with former President Trump on September 10 and attacks from some Republican lawmakers about his running mate’s military record.

The former president said the same day that he would debate Harris on ABC News on Sept. 10. He also said he had agreed to debate her on Fox News on Sept. 4 and on NBC News on Sept. 25. However, Harris indicated she would not agree to a debate before Sept. 10.

“I’d be happy to discuss additional debates or even debates after Sept. 10,” she said.

Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), accused Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) of “defamation,” noting that Walz had retired from the National Guard just before troops were ordered overseas.

“Look, I applaud anyone who volunteers to serve our country, and I think we all should,” Harris said.

Vance has shadowed Harris throughout battleground states this week, highlighting her lack of engagement with the media.

Vance has posted daily on social media about how long Harris has not been questioned, and jumped on the issue on Wednesday as their planes were simultaneously parked on a tarmac in Wisconsin.

“Hopefully, in the next few months, that will be my plane,” he told reporters about Air Force Two. “I also thought people might be feeling a bit lonely because the vice president isn’t answering questions from reporters.”
