An assistant prosecutor in Ohio has reportedly been fired after he allegedly bit off a man’s finger in a fit of rage last month after the man honked his horn at a green light.
Former Greene County Deputy Prosecutor Christopher Murray is accused of the horrific assault that happened in the early morning hours of June 30th. Law and Crime.
The Riverside Police Department responded to multiple calls of “an ongoing fight” on the U.S. 35 overpass about 210 miles from Cleveland, where “one caller reported there was a large amount of blood and a finger had been bitten off,” according to an arrest report obtained by the outlet.
When police arrived on scene, they found a 43-year-old man standing outside his vehicle with a large amount of blood on his body and on the ground.
The unidentified man, later identified as the victim, was examined by medical personnel at the scene, who determined that part of his middle finger had been “bitten off,” according to the report obtained by Law & Crime.
The victim’s finger was amputated at the distal interphalangeal joint (the joint at the end of the finger just before the nail begins).
Police later found part of a finger under the man’s car.
The victim claimed that he was waiting at a red light when the car in front of him did not move even after the light turned green.
According to Law&Crime, the man then “honked his horn” to let the driver know he was moving.
The driver, identified by police as Murray, then allegedly got out of his vehicle, approached the victim’s vehicle and declared he wanted to fight the man.
Murray then allegedly grabbed the victim’s driver’s side door and “opened the door and began to struggle,” and the two “struggled until he fell to the ground,” Law & Crime reported.
The victim told police he got on top of Murray during the scuffle, at which point the former Ohio prosecutor “bite[ed]his finger.”
The victim told police that Murray then fled the scene.
But before fleeing, Murray dropped his cell phone, which police seized as evidence and later used to identify Murray as a suspect, according to the report. W.D.N..
The victim was evaluated at the scene and then transported to a hospital for further treatment, according to the incident report.
Murray is now facing a charge of felonious assault, according to WDTN.
The Riverside Police Department said Murray’s case is still being heard by a grand jury and that he has not been arrested, Law & Crime reported.
Greene County Prosecutor David D. Hayes said Murray was fired from his position as a Greene County deputy prosecutor after the alleged assault escalated to bodily injury. Law and Crime.
Hayes told the outlet he did not find out about the incident until more than a week after it happened.
“As the Greene County Prosecutor, I learned on July 8, 2024, of an ongoing criminal investigation in Montgomery County regarding my employee, Christopher Murray,” Hayes told the outlet.
Hayes wrote that Murray has been “on administrative leave since July 9, 2024” and has “not been in office or representing my office in court” since then.
“After much consideration, I have terminated Christopher Murray’s employment at the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office,” Hayes said.
