What is Breaking?

Breaking, also known as B-boying, B-girling or breakdancing, is a type of street dance that originated in New York City and has officially become an Olympic sport since this year.

Breakdancing consists of four main types of moves: top rock (foot movements performed while standing), down rock (moves performed with the hands and feet on the floor), power moves (fast acrobatic movements that are often the centerpiece of a routine), and freezes (pausing all movement in an interesting position).

The 2024 Olympics will feature two medal events, one featuring 16 women’s basketball players and one featuring 16 men’s basketball players.
