Republican notions of ‘progressive’ and ‘populist’ don’t match reality

When it comes to fighting for true American values, progressives have been at the forefront from the beginning.

Who gave women the right to vote? Progressives. Who stood up to end racial segregation? Progressives. And who created the lifelines that are Social Security and Medicare? Yes, progressives.

But today, venture capitalist Republicans are posing as working-class heroes and dragging the term “progressivism” through the mud.

Don’t be fooled by the J.D. Vances and Donald Trumps of the world: Their populism is just a smokescreen, an elaborate cover-up to protect their Wall Street buddies, and as unreal as a $3 bill.

It’s time to expose this farce for what it is: a wolf in sheep’s clothing, designed to get the rich richer and leave the rest of us fighting over the leftovers.

Just look at the numbers. Income inequality has skyrocketed during President Donald Trump’s term. In 2020, the top 1 percent of Americans earned possessed more wealth Trump’s tax cuts primarily benefited the wealthy, while the top 5% of earners Nearly half of the total benefits.

This is not populism, this is plutocracy.

And J.D. Vance? He Venture capitalist He made his fortune exploiting the very system that hollowed out the American middle class, and it was people like him who bought up rural America’s factories and sold them off piece by piece while they waxed poetic about the hardships of rural America.

Unlike the false populism of Vance and Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris has dedicated her entire career to fighting for fair policy and justice.

As a senator, sheLIFT MethodIt would provide huge tax credits to middle-class families, lifting millions out of poverty.

During her tenure as San Francisco District Attorney and California Attorney General, Harris implemented groundbreaking programs including:Back on trackrehabilitating first-time offenders and securing big profitsSettlement for homeownersIn the midst of the foreclosure crisis.

She has consistently advocated for criminal justice reform, including abolishing bail and decriminalizing marijuana, while also championing women’s rights, gun safety and climate change action.

Tim Walz achieved a similar progressive victory as governor of Minnesota: He signed the first state law. Legislate abortion rights After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

heLegalized MarijuanaProviding both social justice and economic benefit,Free EducationGive low-income families equal opportunity and provide free education to every child in Minnesota.Breakfast and lunch at schoolRegardless of the family’s financial situation.

As governor, he was the largest Tax cuts The state also passed the largest bipartisan bill in state history. Infrastructure Bill This is the first time in history. How’s that for an example of progressives getting things done?

Progressive policies don’t just mean big government, they mean fair government. Social Security, Medicare, and the minimum wage are all progressivist achievements that have vastly improved the lives of millions of Americans.

These programs are under constant threat from a Republican Party that puts corporate profits above the well-being of people, and Trump and Vance are complicit in this dangerous trend, promoting policies that widen the gap between the wealthy and everyone else.

Remember when the Affordable Care Act was enacted?Under attack• Millions of us were at risk of losing our insurance.

But Kamala Harris and Tim Walz stood firm. They understand that health care is a right, not a privilege. Harris said:Medicare for All“She has said in the past that she believes no American should have to go bankrupt to pay for medical care. And what about Walz? He has been on the front lines fighting to ensure people across Minnesota have access to a doctor when they need it.

But if you can’t afford food, there’s no point in having insurance. That’s why Harris and Waltz $15 minimum wageThey know that a fair day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. J.D. Vance and Donald Trump may have turned their backs on working families who want a living wage, but Harris and Walz have not.

This isn’t just about economics. It’s about respecting the value of work and making sure every American can provide for their family.

The evidence is clear: Harris and Walz believe in a fairer, more equal society where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Trump and Vance’s false populism is a dangerous illusion aimed at enriching the wealthy at the expense of the working class.

“Progressive” is not a bad word. It is a badge of honor worn by those who fight for justice, equality, and opportunity for all. Harris and Walz embody this spirit and stand as true champions for the American people.

Don’t be fooled by the empty promises of the Republican Party. The real fight for America’s future rests with the men and women who have always fought for the people.

So the next time you hear them claim to be fighting for you, remember: Real progress doesn’t come from boardrooms or country clubs. It comes from people who have always stood up for what’s right, even when it’s unpopular. That’s the legacy of progressivism, and that’s the future we’re fighting for.

To be honest, it’s pretty strange to not be progressive in today’s world: progress is about making things better for all people, not just a privileged few.
