Vice President Kamala Harris finally answered some questions on Thursday.
After Donald Trump spoke for more than an hour at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago and answered more than a dozen questions from reporters, Harris took brief questions from the media on the tarmac at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.
“The essence of journalism is when you finally get a chance to ask a candidate a question, you ask when they’ll be open for more questions.”
This is Harris’ first time answering questions since securing the Democratic presidential nomination last month.
The questions and answers are as follows:
- Reactions to President Trump’s press conference: “I’m pleased that he has finally agreed to debate on September 10th. I’m looking forward to it and I hope he’ll attend.”
- Other discussions: “We are happy to discuss holding additional debates after September 10th.”
- Why Trump “withdrew” from the debate: “It’s not up to me to speculate as to what he’s thinking.”
- Tim Waltz’s “Stolen Valor” Accusation: “Listen, I applaud anyone who volunteers to serve our country, and I think we all should.”
- On avoiding the media: “I’ve spoken with the team and hope to schedule an interview by the end of this month.”
The entire conversation lasted about 70 seconds. By contrast, Trump spoke to the media for about 70 minutes. Minutes At Mar-a-Lago.
But look at the questions: None of the reporters asked Harris for substantive answers to questions Americans care about, like how she plans to fight inflation, how she plans to end the border crisis, etc. They certainly didn’t ask about her foreign policy agenda.
The question and Harris’s final answer was that she May Interviews must be arranged by the end of August. Criticized Power is Democrats and the media were positive about it, and of course conservatives panned the show heavily.
“By the end of the month? August 8th!” says former CNN and Washington Post writer Chris Cillizza. Responded.
“That’s the joy of journalism when you finally get a chance to ask a candidate a question, and then you ask when you’re going to get more questions,” Vox co-founder Matthew Yglesias said.
