Sha’Cary Richardson is writing the ultimate redemption story at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Kicked off the U.S. track and field team ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana, Richardson is one of the faces of the women’s track and field team this time around, and she put that face on full display Friday as the anchor of the women’s 4x100m relay team.
The U.S. women won the gold medal in the 4×100 relay thanks to an incredible final burst from Richardson, who surged forward in the final leg to lead the U.S. to the top of the podium, and in the process provided one of the most viral images of the Olympics. First, watch Richardson win the race for the U.S. here:
So let’s enjoy the memes.
As Richardson took the lead, she looked to her right to see she was ahead of Great Britain, who went on to win silver, and the look on her face is the stuff of legend.
Richardson had already won an Olympic silver medal in the women’s 100 meters, and this was her first Olympic gold medal.
Richardson didn’t achieve this time alone: Melissa Jefferson, Towanisha Terry and Gabby Thomas were already on the gold medal team. The United States won gold in 41.78 seconds, while Great Britain took silver in 41.85 seconds.
There were so many amazing photos taken at the Paris Olympics, and Richardson has captured yet another one.
