A new survey of Georgia voters suggests that Republicans need to mobilize voters over the age of 50 to win the presidential election.
New polls show that typically high-turnout voters are voting for Donald Trump. AARPand they could potentially flip a state that the former president lost by fewer than 12,000 votes four years ago.
Overall, the race is close. In head-to-head polls, Trump and Harris are tied at 48%. If you add Robert Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein and Cornel West to the choices, Trump leads overall, 48% to 46%.
But the race is sharply divided, with polls showing that older voters are more likely to support Trump.
Among voters under 35, Trump trails by 11 points in the head-to-head contest and by 9 points among all candidates. Among voters ages 35 to 49, Trump trails by 4 points in both scenarios.
But if you exclude voters old enough to be AARP members from large-scale polls, the picture is quite different.
Among those ages 50 to 64, Trump leads by 4 points in both overall and binary options polls.
And Trump wins by a large margin among those 65 and older: a 13-point lead in the two-way voting test, and a whopping 15-point lead (56% to 41%) when the larger field of candidates is taken into account.
AARP believes more experienced voters will make a difference this election.
“Georgia’s voters over 50 represent the largest voting demographic and could be the difference between winning or losing this election for any candidate,” said Vanessa Payne, AARP Georgia president.
“If candidates want to win, they must pay attention to issues that matter to voters over 50, from protecting Social Security to supporting family caregivers.”
Fifty-six percent of older voters expect to rely heavily on Social Security as their primary source of income, and Trump has pledged to protect them as a candidate in this election.
“WE WILL FIGHT TO PROTECT SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE WITHOUT CUT AND WITHOUT CHANGE TO THE RETIREMENT AGE,” one bill in capital letters reads. Party platform Trump’s allies this year Republican National Convention.
He recently The truth of society He has argued that “seniors should not pay Social Security taxes,” and has explained that this will be his immediate priority when he takes office next year.
“People on Social Security are being killed. One of the things I’m doing is eliminating taxes on seniors on Social Security, and I’ll do it immediately,” he added in a recent speech. Fox and Friends Interview.
If there’s a potential opportunity for Harris, it’s Georgia’s elderly who are caring for other family members.
“34% of older voters identify themselves as family caregivers, accounting for 17% of the overall electorate. 38% of voters ages 50-64 and 37% of Democrats and women over 50 identify as family caregivers,” the AARP noted, adding that 90% of them say they are “very motivated” to vote in November.
Trump has a slim lead among these motivated voters: one point in the two-way voting test and three points in the expanded poll.
Republican poll Fabrizio Ward Shops and the Democratic Party Impact Researchconducted a survey of 600 voters between July 24 and July 31 to look more closely at older voters.
The poll included an oversample of 494 voters aged 50 and over, and a second oversample of 160 black voters aged 50 and over.
