The birth of a new women’s professional basketball league in the United States could change everything for top athletes. WNBAThe biggest stars of UnparalleledThe Miami Hockey League is a 3-on-3 basketball league that takes place in Miami during the WNBA offseason. More details about Unrivaled are being revealed on an ongoing basis, with Collier taking to Twitter this week to answer fan questions and share some more details about how it all works. Here’s what we learned:
Which WNBA stars will be appearing on Unrivaled?
Unrivaled will feature 30 WNBA stars as participants and notable player owners, and over the past few months the league’s official Twitter account has been teasing information about the participants, revealing their names one by one, in an effort to generate buzz around the league.
Already announced participants include 10 WNBA All-Stars: Breanna Stewart (Liberty), Napheesa Collier (Lynx), Arike Ogunbowale (Wings), Chelsea Gray (Aces), Jewel Loyd (Storm), Kelsey Plum (Aces), Rhyne Howard (Dream), Kalia Copper (Mercury), Jackie Young (Aces) and Angel Reese (Sky), as well as University of Connecticut star Paige Bueckers, who will join in 2025.
Angel Reese’s inclusion could be especially beneficial in drawing attention to the league given her massive following: Reese has 3.8 million followers on Instagram, making her the most followed player in women’s basketball.
Angel is a ✨businesswoman✨ and knows the power of ownership. This is the only investment we have control over as basketball players. Angel is part of this group that has a massive audience and should benefit long-term in the growth of basketball. Plus we’re in Miami… https://t.co/0vSii4tF7Q

“Angel is a businesswoman and understands the power of ownership,” Collier says. Via X. “This is the one investment we have control over as basketball players.”
Collier also revealed that four rookies (and the number is growing) are scheduled to play, though Reese is the only one who has been officially announced so far. Cameron Brink, Caitlin Clark, Camila Cardozo, Kate Martin, Rekea Jackson and other top WNBA rookies could also be in the mix.
When and where will the match take place?
Unrivaled will host two games back-to-back three nights a week, and Collier said the league is in the final stages of media negotiations, but “it will be very easy for fans to find us,” possibly on television or streaming platforms.
The league will be based in Miami but will travel to several cities throughout the season.
Collier also said the game time would be “regular basketball” rather than the Olympic 10 minutes. “That seems stressful and exhausting,” she wrote.
No, that sounds stressful and tiring.
Our games will look similar to regular basketball, just with more space: four quarters, two substitutes per team, and coaching staff. https://t.co/PnSyQG65FO— Napheesa Collier (@PHEEsespieces) August 9, 2024
How will Unrivaled’s roster be put together?
Unrivaled will feature six teams, each made up of five players, and Collier said the selection committee will split the teams by position and skill, with players expected to move between teams in a manner similar to the WNBA.
It seems the co-founders of the league will never be paired together.
“Unfortunately, Sunday may be the last time myself and Stewie play together until the national team resumes,” Collier said. Written.
Each team has a head coach, assistants and team managers, some of whom are from the WNBA and some not.
“We’re going to have a team of experienced coaches,” Napheesa Collier said. Written.
Where can I buy tickets?
Tickets will be announced on the official website in the autumn. www.unrivaled.basketball. Collier assured fans that jerseys will also be available for sale.
What is a 1v1 tournament?
In addition to the 3-on-3 tournaments, players will also compete in a single-elimination 1-on-1 tournament with the winner taking home a minimum of $250,000.
