A reported increase in robberies and assaults in New York City’s famed Central Park has spread fear among residents and tourists.

Kirstin Edwards, an Upper East Side resident, said she waits until later in the day to enjoy the park with her dog because she sees people with mental illnesses screaming in the early hours of the morning.
“I can honestly say I’ve never felt more unsafe in Central Park,” she noted.

New York City has been plagued by various forms of violence against residents and visitors, while there have been roughly 22,000 incidents of shoplifting since the start of 2024, Breitbart News reported in May.
More recently, two women were pushed onto the tracks by another woman on the city’s subway, the outlet reported on Monday.
The victims were tourists from Mexico, and authorities said the suspect targeted them in an “unprovoked attack.” The suspect was arrested at the scene.

The media also detailed another incident.
In March, a man was arrested after allegedly pushing his girlfriend onto subway tracks in New York City, causing both of her legs to be severed, according to Breitbart News.
Christian Valdes is accused of pushing the woman onto the tracks as the train approached the platform, after the two had apparently been arguing shortly before the incident.
On Thursday, a female NYPD officer was left with blood on her face after an altercation with a repeat offender who was reportedly on probation, according to Breitbart News.
“According to authorities and police sources, the 41-year-old suspect was arrested on the corner of Rosedale and Randall Streets after he allegedly punched a female officer who tried to break up an altercation between him and several young people,” the media outlet reported.
