Country music star Phil Vassar is alive to tell his story after the singer said he “died twice.”
Vassar, 62, spoke about his health issues, revealing that he suffered a heart attack and stroke last year.
“I died suddenly. I was dead for about 30 minutes on two occasions. My heart wasn’t beating. It wasn’t beating at all,” Vassar told Taste of Country.

The “Last Day of My Life” singer described a moment during his Christmas tour with Deana Carter when his life flashed before his eyes.
“I don’t remember anything, but I remember not feeling well. I had a genetic heart condition,” Vassar said.
“I was never a big drinker or a big partyer. I worked out every day. … I was in bad shape so I made sure I was healthy and never ate any fried food. Not even once. It was genetic,” he added.

Vasser, a multi-platinum singer-songwriter, said he had a medical emergency at his home and someone was nearby to call 911. Vasser added that paramedics shocked Vasser “11 times,” resulting in “several broken ribs.”
“They did a really good job bringing me back,” Vassar said.
Jamie-Lynn Sigler “nearly died” a year ago from complications from surgery while battling multiple sclerosis.

Three days later, the country star suffered a stroke while in the hospital.
“They put ice on me and I was like, ‘Why is it so cold?’ I’m on ice,” he recalled. “And then, weirdly enough, I suddenly died.”
Vassar said the near-death experience left him feeling “amazing” and grateful “to be alive.”

“The medication saved me. I probably wouldn’t have survived,” the country singer said.
“You think you’re doing everything right, and then it all goes wrong. … It’s a weird thing.”
Vasser rose to fame in the ’90s with the release of his debut album.

The country music star has released nine other albums and co-written songs for such notable singers as Tim McGraw, Collin Raye and Alan Jackson.
A representative for Vassar College did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
