President Donald Trump has launched a sweeping new attack on his Democratic opponents: “We’re going to bring back all of common sense,” he said in an online fundraising ad.
He also used the phrase at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday, saying:
People want safety. They want security. They want the respect of our country around the world. People don’t want this horrible culture that’s developing, a culture of no common sense. It’s a culture of no common sense, and nobody wants it.
He explained:
We want a safe country. We want a strong military. We want low interest rates. We want the American Dream to come true. We want young people to be able to buy homes and get good jobs. And we’re in the exact opposite situation. So it’s very sad… [Harris has] The worst Border Minister ever… [and] Under the Biden-Harris administration, 20 million people have come across the border… Now we have people who can’t buy bacon, can’t buy food, can’t buy groceries, can’t do anything, they’re struggling financially, and they’re living horribly in this country right now.
…
She chose a far-left man [Gov. Tim Walz as running mate]He has a position that some people don’t even believe exists. He’s deeply involved in the transgender world. He doesn’t want borders. He doesn’t want walls. He doesn’t want any form of security in the country. He doesn’t care about people coming in from prison. And neither does she.
“Culture of common sense” could help Trump and J.D. Vance channel their criticism of Harris’ economic and border policies into the pockets of voters concerned about widespread damage that immigration causes to living standards and the national economy.
Vance said. Fox News August 6:
Border Patrol chief Kamala Harris sent out handwritten invitations to all illegal aliens and terrorists in the world…When I talk to Americans, one of the biggest concerns is “why is housing so expensive?” I’ll give you two reasons, Sean. One, we have 20 million illegal aliens who shouldn’t be in the US and they’re competing with Americans for scarce housing. Two, Kamala Harris supports rising interest rates, making mortgages totally unaffordable for most people. So these policies are hurting regular people…she’s putting the interests of illegal aliens above the American people.

1. We have 20 million illegal immigrants here who shouldn’t be here in the first place, competing with Americans for scarce housing.

Meanwhile, Harris’ campaign has remained silent, relying on positive publicity from enthusiastic journalists to boost its numbers.
“The Harris campaign is hoping to ride this wave for as long as possible,” Politico said. Reported Added on August 8:
So there’s little worry that the candidate will shy away from another thing long expected of presidential candidates: answering questions from the press. … Harris’ communications director, like Biden’s aides, is highly skeptical that doing extensive interviews with major television networks and national newspapers would provide any real benefit in winning over swing voters.
“There’s really no need for that,” one Harris supporter told Politico. “The voters she needs are at the local level. They don’t read the national newspapers.”
